Where discarded Titans trio could land next

Andrew Johns and Brad Fittler have speculated what might be next for discarded Gold Coast Titans trio Tyrone Peachey, Mitch Rein and Ash Taylor.

The Titans showed the door to a handful of players following the club’s 2021 season, with Sam Stone, Jai Whitbread and Jonus Pearson joining the aforementioned trio.

Johns said of those departing the club Peachey presents as the most enticing prospect for NRL clubs.

“I think Tyrone Peachey would be a great buy,” he said in Wide World of Sports’ Freddy & The Eighth.

“That jersey 14 with a quicker ruck… when he decides to run he’s so dangerous with his speed and strength.”

Fittler agreed that Peachey would be a smart pick-up.

“Peachey will definitely be picked up somewhere. Interesting what sort of money he’s worth to team – I really think that number 14 is a really valuable position,” he said.

While 31-year-old Rein is towards the end of his career, he still could play a role at a club, according to the NRL legends.

“Mitch Rein actually went to Penrith in a similar situation and got the job at the Titans and nailed the job in the number one position, so he’s obviously someone who will work hard so I’m sure some NRL team will pick him up,” Fittler said.

“Mitch Rein’s [career] probably coming to an end but you need depth in that dummy half position because it’s such a tough position,” Johns added.

“I think he’d be a good pick-up, whether you want to call it a second string dummy half.”

As for oft-criticised half Taylor, Johns said the Super League should be his next destination to revive his career.

“Ash Taylor I think he should go to England,” Johns said.

“Seeing a player such as Drew Hutchison and Jackson Hastings go away there for a year or two, worked on their game and then come back. I think he needs to go to the Super League and totally work on his craft.”
