When Pebble forgot that it doesn’t make the Apple Watch Ultra – Times of India

Alright, so we thought we had seen it all when it comes to copying designs, features, and whatnot when it comes to gadgets. But no, clearly we hadn’t till we saw the Pebble Cosmos Engage. At first glance — actually at all glances — it is the most blatant ripoff of the Apple Watch Ultra. Just look at the Pebble Cosmos Engage.
The band? Apple Watch Ultra has the same band style. The digital crown? Now, where have you seen that before? Oh right, Apple Watch Ultra. There’s an Action button, which is perhaps in no other smartwatch but the Apple Watch Ultra. The Watch faces bear a striking resemblance to those found on the Apple Watch Ultra. You get the drift — the Pebble Cosmos Engage is a cut, copy, paste job of the Apple Watch Ultra. It’s like they said, “Cut. Copy. Paste – Engage” Maybe that’s why it’s called Engage? Who knows.
It’s not new for brands to make lookalikes of Apple products. The market for wireless earbuds, and smartwatches are littered with products that look like Apple has made them but in reality, it hasn’t.
At least, you have to give some credit to the design team at Pebble. To imitate isn’t that easy. And to imitate this well is certainly a job well done. The design team — lazy in the thought process — but did some work at least. But Pebble didn’t stop there and took the cut, copy, paste job one step too far.
Go on the Pebble Cosmos Engage webpage and look at the collage of images. Here’s the picture. Now look closely. The second watch with the Ocean loop lookalike band in beige colour. The back of the image clearly says: “Apple Watch Ultra. 49mm Titanium”. That’s right, Pebble’s team that’s in charge of putting images on the website followed the “let’s copy Apple Watch Ultra” template to the T.

The image used by Pebble for the Cosmos Engage is actually the image of the Apple Watch Ultra. The Apple Watch Ultra is an excellent smartwatch that is bound to leave an impression on most people. Clearly, for the folks at Pebble the Apple Watch left an indelible mark.
“Explore the Unexplored” is the tagline for Pebble Cosmos Engage. How ironic that Pebble did zero exploration when it came to the design and the image. It was Hemingway who once wrote, “when people talk, listen completely.” In this case, Apple made and Pebble did everything completely, everything — including using the picture of the Apple Watch Ultra!
