WhatsApp services restored after over an hour of outage

Meta-owned social messaging app WhatsApp is down across India, the United Kingdom, South Africa and Asia, with thousands of users complaining they are unable to send or receive messages in text or video format

According to Downdetector, a platform that tracks websites, there were close to 26,000 reports from users regarding the functioning of the app.

While 69% of the faced problems with sending messages, 24% has troubles with server connection and 7% had issues with the overall app.

“We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble sending messages and we’re working to restore WhatsApp for everyone as quickly as possible,” said Meta spokesperson as quoted by news wire agency ANI.

According to the heat map on Detector, several major cities such as New Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata and Mumbai were facing major issues in using WhatsApp. Even smaller cities such as Indore, Surat and Cuttack were showing similar problems.

WhatsApp for Business, the platform’s version designed for companies and businesses to carry out commercial transactions, also showed a spike in the number of reports flagged on Downdetector as users were unable to carry out any communication.
