WhatsApp ‘is changing on every iPhone’ in a very bizarre way
WHATSAPP may be getting a design tweak for all recent iPhone models.
A test version of the app has been updated with a colour change – but only the eagle-eyed would spot it.
WhatsApp has supported Dark Mode for a while now.
This lets you change the colour palette to light hues on a dark background – making WhatsApp easier to view in the morning or at night.
But a new WhatsApp update on the beta “test” version of the app appears to make Dark Mode even darker.
It was spotted by the sleuths at WABetaInfo, who regularly mine WhatsApp to uncover changes.
In the update, the toolbar at the bottom is totally dark.
That means the overall look of WhatsApp is significantly darker.
It’s great news for anyone who loves Dark Mode – and how it helps you from being blinded by a bright screen with the lights off.
Sadly, the first thing to note is that this is just a test version of the app.
It’s entirely possible that WhatsApp could scrap or tweak this change before it ever makes it to the general release.
WhatsApp changes can sometimes be in development for months or years before rolling out too.
But keep an eye out for this small change in the coming months – it might sneak into a future update.
Importantly, this design change appears to only be valid for iPhones running on iOS 15.
It’s possible that this may change before general release.
But iOS 15 supports phones all the way back to the iPhone 6S and iPhone SE (1st generation).
So years of iPhones may suddenly get this quirky WhatsApp tweak.
How to activate WhatsApp Dark Mode on iPhone
Dark Mode on WhatsApp borrows from your iPhone’s system-wide settings.
First, go to Settings > General > Software Update to make sure you’re using the latest version of iOS.
Then go into Settings > Display & Brightness, and choose Dark Mode under Appearance.
Now when you go into WhatsApp, the app will also appear with a Dark Mode theme.
How to join the WhatsApp beta
To download WhatsApp beta for your smartphone you need to go to Google Play on your Android and search for WhatsApp.
Scroll down the page until you see “Become a Beta Tester”.
Tap the “I’m In” button and then click “Join” to confirm.
Now all you have to do is wait for the update to the beta version of the app.
Joining the WhatsApp beta on iPhone is more difficult, and has limited capacity.
