This week tellyland is shifting to the past.

Could you love for eternity (Picture: Liane Hentscher/Amazon Studios)

The first season of this inventive comedy drama from Greg Daniels, the talent behind Parks and Recreation, didn’t get the recognition it deserved: a smart play on the eternal human desire for eternal life, the central relationship between Nathan and Nora was played to perfection by Robbie Amell and Andy Allo, which meant the idea of a live woman falling for a dead guy and vice versa – go with it – was easy to invest in.

So it’s great that a follow-up is finally landing, even if it means we have to shout at the screen ‘no, Nathan, no!’ as his scheming ex Ingrid joins him in the Uploaded afterlife. It makes sense when you watch it, honest.

Available Friday.

The Last Kingdom

More medieval thrills, and more men called Alf (Picture: Carnival Film & Television Limited)

It’s bonanza time for fans of medieval history sagas for today, hot on the horny helmets of the rebooted Vikings franchise, it’s time to get reacquainted with Uhtred (son of Uhtred) and his one-man quest to ensure peace across Anglo-Saxon land.

Alexander Dreymon cuts a fine dash as a hero who has his work cut out brokering peace when scheming nobles are playing to their own devious agendas but, even though there are an awful lot of names beginning with Aelf – just call ‘em all Alf – this is a stirring slice of fantasy history.

Available today.

Starzplay

Shining Vale

A rare example of successful comedy horror (Picture: Kat Marcinowski)

Comedy horror is a notoriously tricky act to pull off, but this addition to the genre packs plenty of starpower.

Co-written by Sharon Horgan, Shining Vale centres on Courteney Cox as Pat, a raunchy female empowerment writer trying to rebuild her marriage to the cheated on Terry (Greg Kinnear) by upping sticks and moving to a lovely old country house.

A lovely old country house that might just be haunted – or has Pat hit the bottle again? Mira Sorvino co-stars.

Episodes one and two available now, then new episodes on Sundays.

The Courtship

Prep for Bridgerton’s return (Picture: 2022 NBCUniversal Media, LLC)

Bridgerton, you have a lot to answer for. The hit Regency-inspired romantic drama returns in just over two weeks but, to get you in the mood, here’s a dating show clearly inspired by the bobbing bonnets and heaving butts of Shonda Rhimes’ show.

It’s an easy format: assorted beaux in period clobber compete for the hand (yes, we’re old fashioned types) of a fair damsel who must decide if they’re top class or just a rough in a ruff. Hilarious.

Episode one now available via the Peacock strand, which is kind of appropriate.
