What to watch this week: From Ozark to Dollface

What to watch this week

Time for a mix of light and very, very dark (Picture: pc/Netflix/Disney)

We all need a mix of content to push us into summer from the last days of spring.

Well streaming services are here to provide it, as the zingers of Dollface mix with the crime thrills of Ozark (now entering its highly dramatic final seven episodes) and the haunted, snowy heights of Anomalia.

It’s perhaps never been truer to say that there’s something for everyone this week!

Netflix

Ozark

The net closes in on Marty and Wendy (Picture: Netflix)

After a stirring run it’s time to brace yourselves for the final seven episodes of this superior crime series that’s filled a Breaking Bad hole in our lives.

The net is closing in fast on Marty and Wendy Byrde (Jason Bateman and Laura Linney, both at the top of their game) and there appears no way out from the drug-filled hole they’ve dug for themselves.

To say any more would be to sniff up a whole line of spoilers, so let’s just say the ending is way better than that Killing Eve finale. High praise, huh!

Available Friday.

All4/Walter Presents

Anomalia

Anomalia Tormented characters and contrasting worlds that are spellbinding and sometimes frightening; WALTER PRESENTS: ANOMALIA is a fantasy series at the crossroads of science and faith. Having recently separated from her husband, neurosurgeon Val?rie Rossier moves back to her native region of Gruy?re with her son Lucas. Upon taking up a new position at an exclusive clinic working under her former teacher and renowned professor Wassermann, strange events occur through which she gradually discovers her healing powers, starting with her believing she has run someone over. Secrets are slowly revealed about her true heritage and her family?s tragic history. Can rectifying an error from the past influence the present?

We’re a long way from Casualty (Picture: pc)

Switzerland has been a bit late to the party in the rush to embrace all things Euro when it comes to TV drama, but no more: we’re in Gruyére, a land of snowy lakes and forests (who knew it wasn’t made of cheese?) to follow Valérie, a newly arrived neurosurgeon at a local hospital.

But this is no Casualty, things soon turn pretty supernatural as she tries to ward off evil spirits in the wards.

Available today.

Disney+

Dollface

Dollface (2019) Brenda Song, Kat Dennings, and Shay Mitchell in Dollface

Zippy one-liners ahead (Picture: Disney)

If you enjoy comedies about sassy but insecure LA gals making jokes about dildos, shoes and rosé wine – and who doesn’t – then it’s time to welcome back Jules (Kat Dennings) and her mates for a second run as they hit 30 and try to move on with their careers, loves and addictions to shopping and/or spin classes.

The pasted on feminism is a bit trying but the zippy one-liners bump it along.

Available Friday.
