Now TV
Funny Woman
Gemma Arterton has a ball as blonde bombshell Barbara in this bouncy 1960s comedy-drama. It’s based on a Nick Hornby novel that charts the efforts of an ambitious northern lass to make it big on TV as a comedy star, even though all the snobby southern sexists thinks she’s a halfwit because she talks funny. Subtle it most certainly ain’t but it’s got a rough-and-ready charm, and a strong supporting cast featuring a raddled Rupert Everett as Barbara’s agent.
Box set tomorrow.

Dinosaur With Stephen Fry
Acting with children and animals is always considered a risk but Stephen Fry goes one step further as he faces down the challenge of being upstaged by a CGI diplodocus – it’s OK Steve, they only eat plants – in this animated history of all things dinosaur. At 155million years old, this is the T-rex of period dramas.
Episode one available Sunday.

Netflix
You
What started out as a story of singular obsession has turned into a study of what it takes to be a career stalker, as Penn Badgley steps out for a fourth time as the creepily persuasive killer Joe Goldberg. Except this time Joe is going by the name of Jonathan and he’s in London, with Ghosts star Charlotte Ritchie the object of his fatal attraction. There’s a twist though – Joe/Jonathan has a stalker of his own.
Series four part one available tomorrow – yes, it’s annoying that this split season thing is catching on.
Channel 4
The Wall
It’s not just Iceland that can do murder thrillers set in a deep-freeze climate – we’re in French-speaking Canada for this chiller. The Wall is the name of a residential development for mine workers, where the number of ‘fly-in, fly-out workers’ makes Detective Trudeau’s (Isabel Richer) job of catching a twisted killer particularly tricky. Complicating matters is her estranged daughter (Maripier Morin).
Available Friday.
