What to do in Denver this weekend: A pool party, a brewery block party and French fare
Pool party!
Saturday, July 16. One of the most unusual parties in Colorado makes a splash in Longmont after a two-year pandemic hiatus. Wibby Brewing’s Hooplagers pool party and beach bash features several huge, above-ground pools where adults can act like kids (responsible kids), float on some pool toys, frolic with blow-up flamingos and enjoy Wibby’s award-winning collection of lager beers, along with unlimited pours from up to 50 other Colorado breweries. There also will be food, pool games and the sounds of steel drum music to provide tropical vibes.
Before you grab your swimsuit and towel, however, pick up one non-perishable food item to donate when you enter, as it is required along with your ticket. And if you don’t want to drive from Denver, Wibby is offering party trolleys and discounted rates at local hotels. Get tickets ($45) and information at events.eventgroove.com. The party starts at noon at 209 Emory St., Longmont.
Friday-Sunday. If you need more beery fun, Joyride Brewing celebrates its eighth anniversary with a blowout block party featuring live music from nine bands, food trucks, multiple beers made in collaboration with other breweries, a kids zone and, of course, plenty of Ice Cutter Kölsch, which just won a gold medal at the World Beer Cup.
The bands will play on a stage on the street, which will be closed to traffic, for all three days. The lineup includes Hunter James and the Titanic, Midnight Shakedown, El Paso Lasso and Blue River Grass Band. The block party takes place in front of Joyride, 2501 Sheridan Blvd. in Edgewater, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. joyridebrewing.com.
Oysters and Irie
The Golden Mill food hall, at 1012 Ford St. in Golden, hosts its first Reggae on the Creek with live music from Denver Vintage Reggae Society and freshly shucked oysters from Chef Jesus Silva — all combined with some refreshing beverages on the patio and views of Clear Creek.
Silva will prepare Kumiai Oysters from Baja on the half shell (available individually or by the half dozen) with three housemade sauces. There will also be fresh shrimp cocktail and a wine tasting. The fun begins at 4 p.m. and continues until the food is sold out. Prices and other details at goldenmill.com.
A taste of France in Larimer Square
Thursday-Sunday. French food, art, history and live music will take center stage around historic Larimer Square July 14-17 as Denver celebrates its sister city, Brest, France, along with Bastille Day, which honors the country’s independence. There are multiple events throughout the weekend, some of which are free, while others require tickets or reservations.
Events include Fête Nationale Française, with music from Purnell Steen, on Thursday, along with a pop-up market from 5:30 to 9 p.m; music from DJ Ellechemist from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday; a pop-up bar experience at Gate 44 on Friday; a brunch with chef Jen Jasinski at Bistro Vendôme on Saturday; and a balloon stomping competition on Saturday. All of the events take place between 14th and 15th streets. larimersquare.com.

The unique outdoor market, which debuted this year, takes place twice a month on Saturdays and “highlights cultural diversity through business,” organizers say. “You will find a mix of vendors from around the world with a variety of products ranging from food, crafts, art, jewelry and more.”
The free family-friendly event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside of the recently closed Bicycle Village store. Future dates for the marketplace are Aug. 13 and 27, and Sept. 10 and 24. onhavanastreet.com.
