What Maxene Magalona learned about losing a loved one

Losing a loved one may have a lingering pain that makes people somehow weak, but actress-vlogger Maxene Magalona realized there is strength in losing.

Magalona on her Instagram delved into the pain of losing her dad, master rapper Francis Magalona and how she recovered from it.

She initially posted a message from Mahatma Ghandi which said, “You don’t know who is important to you until you actually lose them.”

“Losing a loved one is a form of trauma that changes us forever,” she wrote, citing the death of her dad by cancer in 2009 as an “end of the world” feeling as he was her best friend. For her, the “pain felt neverending.”

“But what I didn’t realize back then which I now understand is that once you have already lost the most important person in your life, it makes you so strong and wise that it just becomes easier and clearer to end relationships, both romantic and non-romantic, that are not working or flowing anymore,” she explained.

This realization came after she read the book “The Untethered Soul” by Michael A. Singer which made her believe that “relationships that flow naturally” and “that the love that is naturally flowing between two people is the energy of God.”

“And that is the kind of love that I believe in. A love that grows and flows and should never be forced,” she said.

With this, she is “actually very grateful for the failed relationships I’ve had in this lifetime because I understand that I had to go through all of them so that I could determine for myself the soul connections that I want to keep and let go of the ones that don’t match my energy.”

“To all the souls I’ve crossed paths with in this lifetime, I give you my heartfelt thanks,” she said.
