If you were thinking of getting a nice, clean white manicure for the summer months, you may want to read up on TikTok’s newest theory: the White Nail Theory.

According to TikTokers, the way people paint their nails says more about them than their taste in acrylics – it’s a way to signal their relationship status, even if it isn’t done on purpose.

And white nails apparently mean you’re single.

TikTok’s Red Nail Theory went viral at the tail end of last year, with users suggesting they got more male attention when they painted their nails red.

The theory was actually backed up by science too – sort of – with research suggesting red leads men to view women as more attractive and more sexually desirable on a subconscious level.

The White Nail theory is rooted less in science and more in anecdotal ‘evidence’.

TikTokers have noticed that single people – particularly newly single people – are more likely to paint their nails white.

There’s also a theory that people who wear blue nail polish tend to be in a relationship, because when you ask a man what colour you should paint your nails, they usually go with blue.

It’s just a bit of fun – butif you want to put the single vibes out there, a white mani might be a good place to start.
