What is Threads and how does the Meta app work?
FORGET Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk’s physical fight.
The Facebook owner is planning to hit where it hurts most with the launch of a long-rumoured Twitter rival.
Called Threads, the brand new app is described by insiders as a mix of Twitter’s dashboard and Instagram’s comment sections.
So when can you download it?
Read on for everything you need to know about Threads.
What is Threads by Meta?
Threads is a brand new social network app from Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta company.
It’s described as a “text based conversation app” which sounds a lot like Twitter.
And it comes at a tough time for rival Twitter after new owner Elon Musk made a number of sweeping changes.
Threads is tied to Instagram, with its title on iOS and Android app stores listed as “Threads, an Instagram app”.
The official description says: “Threads is where communities come together to discuss everything from the topics you care about today to what’ll be trending tomorrow.”
Is Threads on Android?
Threads is available on both iOS for iPhone and Android.
Users can sign up for Threads ahead of release in the US and UK on July 6.
How to download the Threads app
Threads is free on iOS and Android app stores.
You can sign up to it early within Instagram.
Open the app and search “threads”.
A secret envelope icon will appear which you can tap.
This will generate a personal Threads card.
You can tap the “Get Threads” button at the bottom to download the app.
How does Threads work and is it the same as Twitter?
Leaked screenshots suggest Threads isn’t too different from Twitter.
There’s a like button, the ability to re-share posts, comment and send to friends privately.
You can also view the platform on a web browser.
Profiles include an Instagram username and link.
