What is the Sky Stream Puck and what are the benefits?
SKY has long been the leader in satellite TV but the broadcasting giant has moved onto new things in recent years.
Sky Glass was the first big change, with everything built into the telly itself and connected via internet for the first time.
Then last year the firm followed up with Sky Stream.
Here’s everything you need to know.
What is Sky Stream?
Sky Stream is Sky’s second internet-based TV product which doesn’t require any satellite dishes.
It features the same technology as Sky Glass except you can plug it into any TV with a HDMI cable.
This means you don’t have to take on the Sky Glass TV and can use any TV you like.
And it also means no need getting an installation or permission from landlords for a dish.
It comes in the form of a dinky puck – hence why it’s sometimes called the Sky Stream Puck.
Of course, to be able to enjoy anything streamed online you need a good broadband connection.
You don’t have to be a Sky Broadband customer.
But whatever provider you have, it needs to have a minimum broadband speed of 10Mbps.
There’s some UHD content available too – you’ll need at least 25Mbps for that.
Unlike Sky Q, you can’t store programmes on the box.
It’s all kept in the cloud with the option to restart live programmes and add Playlists.
The remote is the same as the Sky Glass one, with a microphone built-in so you can ask it to play most things.
And you can access your favourite streaming apps too, including Netflix which is included with every package.
How much does Sky Stream cost?
There are various packages and deals available for Sky Stream starting from £26 – making it less than £1 a day.
One of the great things about it is you’re not forced into a length contract.
There is a rolling one month plan available.
Whatever you opt for, the puck belongs to Sky, so don’t throw it away after as they’ll want it back – and you could be charged otherwise.
What Sky Stream packages are available?
The 18-month standard contract starts at £26 per month.
And the 31-day rolling contract begins at £29 per month.
The standard package provides you with over 100 fantastic channels you won’t find on Freeview, as well as a Netflix Basic subscription.
You can add various extras on, including Sky Sports, Sky Cinema, BT Sport and Sky Kids.
Things like UHD & Dolby Atmos, as well as Ad Skipping cost extra.
And you can boost your Netflix subscription too.
