With the cost of living crisis causing food bills to soar, loyalty cards are more useful than ever in saving the pennies on the supermarket shop.

The most popular schemes include Tesco Clubcard – with users collecting points they can use towards all sorts of rewards as well as money off groceries – and Sainsbury’s Nectar, which offers similar benefits.

Now Morrisons’ is getting in on the act with a revamped version of its Morrisons More loyalty scheme alongside the return of ‘Morrisons Fivers’ set to make food shopping that bit less costly.

Just what is Morrisons Fivers and how does the Morrison’s More scheme work?

Here’s what you need to know…

What is ‘Morrisons Fivers’?

Morrisons’ Fivers is a bonus which allows loyalty scheme customers to bag £5 worth of credit towards their shopping once they have earned 5000 points.

The scheme – along with Morrisons More’ – was previously replaced in 2021 by MyMorrisons, offering personalised discounts to customers.

However, it’s been reintroduced due to popular demand.

Rachel Eyre, chief customer and marketing officer at Morrisons, said: ‘Customers have been telling us how much they have missed the Morrisons Fivers and so we’ve brought them back as part of a radical overhaul of the Morrisons loyalty scheme.

‘The new More Card – which replaces the My Morrisons scheme – will enable customers to earn points on selected purchases, including fuel, and redeem those points for fivers off their shopping.  The card will also give customers access to exclusive More Card prices with market-leading discounts on customers’ favourites. ‘

How does the Morrisons More loyalty scheme work?

While other schemes such as Tesco Clubcard and Sainsbury’s Nectar give you a certain number of points for every pound you spend in store, Morrisons More works a little differently – by offering shoppers points on selected items in-store and online, rather than on the whole of your shopping.

You can also earn five points for every litre of fuel purchased in a Morrisons petrol station.

While these will be subject to change, current examples of items you can earn points on include:

  • 100 More Points for every five pack of doughnuts (89p)
  • 500 More Points for every £5 spent at the pizza counter
  • 600 More Points for every £6 spent in a Morrisons café
  • 100 More Points for every British BBQ meat pack from the butcher’s counter.

Morrisons More card holders will also be able to benefit from discounts, which in launch week include the following:

  • 1 litre Spirits for £17
  • Nescafé Gold 300g and Nescafé Original 200g for £4.99
  • Pringles for £1.25
  • Cathedral City Cheese 350g for £3.00
  • Fish Friday – 20% off fresh fish from the Market Street fish counter each Friday
  • Steak Saturdays – 20% of British steaks from the Market Street butcher’s counter each Saturday.

In addition those who sign up will get personalised and surprise offers, as well as the possibility of a ‘basket bonus’ when you swipe your loyalty card or scan the app on your phone.

This could be anything from a money off deal to a treat from the Market Street counter.

How to sign up for Morrisons More

You can sign up for Morrisons More by downloading and registering on the app – or you can also register via the website.

If you’re already a Morrisons loyalty scheme holder, you should receive a new Morrisons More card by the end of June to replace your MyMorrisons card.

Those who use a digital card will not receive a new one, but should make sure they have the most up-to-date version of the app on their phone.
