Moonbin’s music label Fantiago updated fans with the heartbreaking news on Twitter and said he had ‘unexpectedly left our world and became a star in the sky’.
Joining Astro at just 18, the singer’s death prompted an outpouring of grief from friends and family as they struggled to come to terms with their loss.
Fans around the world uploaded their condolences and devastation to social media with one saying on Twitter: ‘Rest in peace, Moonbin. I hope the stars and the moon treat you well. I hope they give you all the comfort and love.’
Another typed: ‘Moonbin, your smile will light up the night.’
How did Moonbin die?
Following the discovery of his unresponsive body, police announced they believed he had taken his own life – however, an autopsy was needed to determine the actual cause of his death.
How is Moonbin’s sister Sua?
His sister and fellow K-pop star Moon Sua cancelled all her upcoming shows with her band Billie so as to mourn the untimely death of her sibling.
According to Republicworld, her management Mystic Story issued a statement about her public performances in the wake of Moonbin’s death online which explained: ‘Hello, this is Mystic Story.
‘We notify you of the cancellation and/or postponement of all schedules planned for this week.
‘In the case of the fan sign events, we plan to notify you of rescheduled dates and further details in a subsequent statement, and in the case of all other broadcast appearance schedules, we also intend on uploading separate notices soon.
We ask fans for your understanding. Moon Sua is the chief mourner at Moonbin’s funeral [sic].’
The late star’s band members also announced their devastation at his death on social media and uploaded words written in Korean against a solemn black background.
Their statement on Twitter is understood to have described his sudden death as ‘heartbreaking’ while sharing that the musician had become a ‘star in the sky.’
They also included that the bereaved family was experiencing ‘incomparable’ grief and that Astro members are deeply mourning their unexpected loss.
