What are Young People doing to become professionals? Dihasya Perera,Parmiter’sSchool

Last Wednesday, a number of students of all ages had the privilege of attending a law-related event hosted by Young Professionals; this event highlighted the importance of networking with the initial networking session open to all attendees with Linklaters, Charles Russell Speechlys, Farrer & Co and Mazars. All firms thoroughly explained their processes for engaging with their companies whether that is through the newer Solicitor Apprenticeships or through gaining a degree at university and then joining the firm. The event then continued to offer insight into the university experience of law and business, specifically at the University of Law, with a talk delivered by the Associate Dean and Associate Professor at the London Bloomsbury campus.

Young Professionals has hosted events like this, not just for law, but for a plethora of other job sectors; remarkably, they have been able to offer both virtual and in-person opportunities to keep career information as accessible as possible for students and young people.

Dan Miller, explained that his personal philosophy for starting Young Professionals when he was in school during Year 12 was ‘to help students become better connected with employers and to ensure they were better informed about the different opportunities that are open to them after school,’ and truly, this has been achieved as they have ‘helped over 200,000 school leavers secure opportunities through apprenticeships, work experience and insight day opportunities’. As we have seen access to different job sectors start to diversify, Young Professionals have been promoted by schools and institutions as well as individuals as a prodigious resource for young people moving into their careers.

Finally, Young Professionals has not only provided students with so many opportunities but also proven that the current generation of students and young people are inclined to develop their futures and become career-building professionals, by attending these opportunities initially and then taking on what they learn from these experiences. Specifically for law, these events highlight this generations’ interest in the legal field showing potential for the future of the legal profession.
