West Indies to miss ODI World Cup for the first time in 48 years after qualifier loss to Scotland

The UK team defeated the island nation by seven wickets in the crunch ICC Cricket World Cup qualifier Super Six fixture in Harare. West Indies were all out for 181 in 43.5 overs with Jason Holder’s 79-ball 45 the highest score of the innings. For Scotland, Brandon McMullen took three wickets, with the Scots later chasing down the target in 43.3 overs, losing just three wickets.

Set to be played in India, the 2023 edition of the tournament will not feature the two-time World Champions – they won the first two cups in 1975 and 1979 – and 1983 runners-up.

The Carribean nation were relegated to the qualifiers after finishing ninth in the ODI Super League, with only the top eight teams gaining direct entry to the ten-team tournament.

Grouped with Zimbabwe, Netherlands, USA and Nepal in Group A, the West Indians won their matches against USA and Nepal but lost to Zimbawbe and Netherlands. While they qualified for the Super Six, they did so with zero points carried forward into that round, while the other contenders did.
