Wentworth star’s battle to leave hit series behind
Actor Katrina Milosevic is struggling to shed her Wentworth ‘skin’ as she moves on to her next unusual project.
“Chalk and cheese.” That’s how actor Katrina Milosevic describes the difference between playing Boomer, a drug trafficking inmate on Wentworth to joining the cast of “sex in the suburbs comedy” comedy Spreadsheet as Ange.
Working on the series, which is streaming now on Paramount Plus “was a dream experience”.
“It’s going to take me a while to shed Boomer, she was with me for almost a decade and she’s under my skin, but Spreadsheet is so light and fun and spontaneous,” she says.
“It was glorious, and doing something in a different tone and genre was a nice relief … although my character Ange can be a bit judgey.”
Away from the set, Katrina has created a cosy home with her long-time partner Rodney Hawksworth in a Federation pad in Melbourne’s inner-city, which has a distinct English flavour.
“I think I have been obsessed with England since Bros (boy band from the 1980s). I am a complete Anglophile, I find English comedy very cute and love hearing about the East End of London. I even pretend I am living in a countryside village in England. I went to the University of New England (Armidale, NSW), even though I am from North Queensland. It snowed in winter and all my professors wore duffel coats with elbow patches. It was just magical for me.”
AT HOME WITH ACTOR KATRINA MILOSEVIC
Who: Actor Katrina Milosevic
Where: Federation-era rental with her partner Rodney Hawksworth in Melbourne.
Favourite thing: This dining table belonged to my parents and I grew up around that table. I have lost both of them, so it’s a special reminder.
Inspiration: English charm.
Home: is I have moved around so much for work that coming home is everything. It means feeling safe in a place that is cosy, especially after all those lockdowns.
KATRINA MILOSEVIC’S FAVOURITE THINGS
Candle
It wouldn’t matter if I was down to my last two dollars I would make sure I had candles in the house. This candle is my favourite from Lore Perfumery in Fitzroy.
Reusable shopping bags
We like to get reusable shopping bags from different places around the world, so it makes you feel really special when walking through Coles. This one is from the south of France.
Journals
I have kept journals for years and have hundreds of them. I met my partner 21 years ago in a cafe on my first day living in Melbourne. I wrote about meeting a cute guy on that day and that he may be my destiny.
NIDA degree
After UNE I went to study at NIDA. NIDA changed my life. I learned so much at that place and I use that knowledge every day. It’s definitely shaped who I became in my 20s and 30s and beyond.
Rodney
For the past two years in lockdown he has refused to get out of that brown robe, often wearing nothing underneath so if there is a gust of wind I feel sorry for the neighbours. He loves being in the garden.
French perfume
I bought this perfume essence in Gignac in France and I use it ever so sparingly. It smells of sandalwood and takes me straight back there when I wear it.
Bay window seat
That was the first thing I saw when inspecting this house. I took five steps into the house and decided I had to live here. It’s where I read books and learn my lines.
Headphones
Music is my biggest passion. I never fangirl over actors but I fangirl hard over musicians. Even when I was a little girl and Rod Stewart would come on the TV I would throw myself up against it and kiss the screen.
