‘Weird drug side effect made me rich’

A cleaner who noticed her body suddenly change after starting a new prescription is now earning $250k a year from the “weird” side effect.

A Victorian woman has embraced the “weird” side effect of her medication – and is now raking in 250k a year as a result.

Back in 2018, Pamelia James hit a low point with her mental health, and after seeking help from both her doctor and a psychiatrist began taking a course of medication.

The 27-year-old was prescribed antipsychotic drug quetiapine – otherwise known as seroquel – stating she was relieved when her depression symptoms began easing.

But shortly after, the Melbourne woman noticed she was rapidly gaining weight, despite her eating and exercise habits remaining the same.

Australia’s National Prescribing Service (NPS) states that even at low doses, quetiapine has been linked to significant weight gain.

Fast-forward almost four years and Pamelia has gained 38kg and gone from a clothing size 10-12 to a 18-20 – but she says she’s happier than ever with her new body.

“I was so confused, as nothing else had changed. My eating and exercise habits were the same as always,” she told news.com.au.

“I was never told this could happen, only that I’d get a dry mouth and drowsiness.

“But after I gained weight, I googled it and saw that many people were going through similar experiences.”

The sudden change to her body came as a huge shock, so she went back to the doctor who confirmed it could occur as a result of the medication.

In a weird twist, Pamelia said the weight has “mostly gone to her chest” – with her bra size growing from an E cup to a JJ cup.

“I was a bit down about it at first, so I asked to go on a different medication to help stop the weight gain, but my mental health really suffered, so I decided to go back on,” she said.
“I’m now on 200mg of seroquel, and have gained about 38kg in total since I started.

“I wasn’t worried about my weight, but I just didn’t know how to dress for my new body. I found it really hard at first.”

She said her chest grew so much that many assumed she had implants, but she assures them it’s all natural.

“I’ve always been a bigger busted girl, so I think this all comes down to genetics” she said.

“A lot of my weight just goes to my breasts, which I’m honestly fine about.
“I’m currently at a double-J cup, but even that is not fitting my well right now.”

She’s also managed to grow a large audience as a result of her unique figure – eventually quitting her job as a cleaner to work full time as an OnlyFans creator.

“Once I began gaining weight, I began having much more success with my Only Fans,” she said.

“I didn’t realise it at the time, but there is actually many people who have an interest in women who gain weight, it’s a ‘growth fetish’.

“Because of this, I’ve been very successful in that niche. I have made around $250,000 in the last year, which is over triple what I used to make as a cleaner.

“I feel like I’ve taken something that could have been perceived as a negative, capitalised on it, and now it’s been a life-changing positive for me.”

In addition to the extra money she has been able to make, Pamelia says she feels more confident and happier than ever before in her new body.

She now is sharing her story to encourage all women to love themselves and put their mental health first.

“I love myself more now as a size 20 than I did at a size 10,” she said.
“There are so many girls out there who get down on themselves for gaining weight, but I think everyone is beautiful, and we need to love ourselves just the way we are.

“I could either be skinny and unhappy without my medication, or bigger and loving my life.”
