WATCH: Jim Paredes releases EDSA anthem ‘Handog ng Pilipino sa Mundo’ remake
Featuring its original singers alongside millennial artists, a remake of “Handog ng Pilipino sa Mundo” was released by OPM icon Jim Paredes in commemoration of the 37th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution.
Included in the latest version are Paredes, Boboy Garovillo, Noel Cabangon, Leah Navarro, Pinky Marquez, The CompanY, Celeste Legaspi, Bituin Escalante, Bayang Barrios and Mitch Valdez, as seen in the video on Paredes’ YouTube channel on Thursday, Feb. 23.
Aside from these veteran singers and clips from the historic event, the remake also features Magalona siblings Elmo and Arkin; theater artists including Gab Pangilinan, Bodjie Pascua, Raul Montesa and Audie Gemora; drag queens Precious Paula Nicole, Brigiding and Tita Baby; as well as children who each sang lines from the iconic anthem.
“A remake of the iconic EDSA anthem of 1986 written by Jim Paredes. This time old veterans and millennials do the song with a modern arrangement, video treatment, and a fresh new rendition with a rap portion,” the caption says.
Paredes, who composed the anthem in 1986, was emotional as he looked back at the EDSA Revolution through his Instagram page.
“I was still a child when the [EDSA People Power] happened. May the Filipino people cherish this glorious moment in our history. May the spirit of EDSA live on. God bless the [Philippines],” he wrote, along with the hashtag “no to history revisionism.”
The EDSA People Power Revolution, the bloodless uprising that ousted former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., is commemorated every Feb. 25. /ra
