A Delta plane landed safely at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina on Wednesday without its front landing gear. However, no injuries were reported.
The plane, a Boeing 717, was carrying 96 passengers, two pilots, and three flight attendants. It had departed from Atlanta earlier in the day.
As the plane approached Charlotte, the pilots received an indication that the front landing gear was not safe. They initiated a missed approach procedure to allow air traffic control officials to visually inspect the plane, said Delta on its website. The inspection showed that the nose landing gear doors were open, but the nose gear itself remained in the up position.
The pilots decided to land the plane without the front landing gear. They made a belly landing on the runway, which caused some damage to the plane. However, there were no injuries to the passengers or crew.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the incident.
In a statement, Delta Airlines said that its flight crews “train extensively to safely manage through many scenarios” and that flight 1092 landed safely “without reported injuries.” The airline said that it is “taking care of our customers on this flight,” including retrieving their bags and seeing them to their final destinations safely.

The passengers on board the plane praised the crew for their handling of the situation. Chris Skotarczak, one of the passengers, told ABC News that there was no chaos on board during the landing and that he “also praised the crew for their work.”
Another passenger, who asked to remain anonymous, told the outlet that there was clapping once the plane touched down and they deplaned. However, the passengers were told to brace for a rough touchdown.
The FAA said that it will investigate how the front landing gear failed to deploy. The agency said that it is “committed to ensuring the safety of the nation’s airspace” and that it will “take appropriate action as needed.”
