WATCH: Connor McDavid scores 60th goal of the season in overtime thriller
Connor McDavid is simply unstoppable.
The Oilers superstar scored an electrifying overtime goal against the Coyotes late Wednesday, his 60th of the year.
It’s the first time McDavid has scored 60 goals in an NHL regular season campaign, becoming just the fourth active player to hit that mark, joining Leafs star Auston Matthews, Capitals sniper Alex Ovechkin and Lightning veteran Steven Stamkos.
In NHL history, only 22 players have scored 60, but none as fast as McDavid — it took him just 72 games — since Mario Lemieux in 1995-1996.
McDavid is on an absolute tear this season. In addition to his 60 goals, he has 78 assists for a total of 138 points, some 28 more than his teammate Leon Draisaitl, who has 110 points — good for the second-most in the league.
As usual, the 26-year-old phenom didn’t have much to say in his post-game interview. “60’s a nice number,” he told reporters.
He also joined the TNT panel post-game, where he was grilled about his love for Nickelback.
Meanwhile, the Oilers have a bit of work to do. With 10 games left, Edmonton (41-23-8) sits in third place in the Pacific Division, trailing the Kings and the Golden Knights.
