Watch as guests compete in ‘sunbed run’ at Spanish hotel to block prime loungers

HOLIDAYMAKERS in Tenerife have been filmed lining up and then jostling to get the best spots around the pool early in the morning.

Every year, the summer months bring scenes of chaos at hotel pools, as guests fight it out to get the best sun loungers.

This year has been no different, even with the school holidays still a couple of weeks away.

Tiktoker Marie Chessum (@mariereereesutton) captured similar scenes on her recent trip to Tenerife, which she then shared online.

Her video, captioned with the hashtag sunbed run, shows Marie getting up early to make sure she’s down at poolside to compete with the other holidaymakers.

As she arrives, others are already there, with their towels in hand ready to reserve the best beds.

Some are first seen standing behind a rope, as they wait for the pool to be opened to guests by the hotel staff.

The guests are then seen roaming between the loungers trying to lay down their markers to prevent other people from taking them later in the day.

It is far from the only example of people battling for the beds, with some more chaotic scenes taking place earlier this year.

Some hilarious footage was posted by a TikToker staying at the Paradise Park Hotel, in Los Cristianos, Canary Islands, Spain.

The post, captioned: “DAY THREE SUNBED WARS,” was uploaded by Jess Clarke after she filmed the bizarre scenes from her balcony.

Surrounding a large pool styled up like a tropical lagoon, viewers could see a huge decked terrace before a crowd of people emerged from the corner of the screen.

As the chaos unfolded, one bloke in yellow sprinting for a lounger left viewers.

His quick footwork allowed him to dash through the small spaces between the chairs which saw him arriving to the main lounge area before the others could catch up with him.

And when he made it to the first row of loungers facing the pool, he threw down five towels on neighbouring chairs at lightning speed.

One wrote: “Guy in yellow put in a proper shift”.

There are some social rules that people should follow when blocking off sunbeds.

Etiquette expert William Hanson revealed how long it’s okay to reserve a lounger for.

If you wait too long, it could be acceptable for someone else to remove your towel and take over the lounger.

He told the Mirror: “Reserving sun loungers with a towel for longer than 30 minutes is a big no-no, beyond that grace period it’s first come first served.”

However, there are some caveats to that 30 minute grace period.

For instance, if someone is actually in the pool, then the lounger is still theirs to use.

Meanwhile, holidaymakers have even taken to reserving spots on the ground at some resorts.

And It is also always worth checking to see if the hotel has its own individual policy on reserving sun loungers.
