Watch as drink driver swerves between 3 lanes at up to 90mph on rainy motorway
THIS is the shocking moment a drink driver careers across three lines at up to 90mph on a rain-soaked motorway, while more than four times over the limit.
The hammered motorist was behind the wheel of a 4×4 vehicle on a northbound section of the M1 when he was spotted by West Yorkshire traffic officers last January.
Dramatic dashcam footage taken from a chasing police vehicle shows the driver initially weaving between lanes and crossing over the white lines in treacherous conditions.
And later, the car reaches speeds of 90mph before cutting across three lanes and driving along the hard shoulder while nearly colliding with other vehicles.
Once police brought the vehicle to a safe stop, the handcuffed driver was found to have 145mcgs of alcohol in his body per 100ml – when the legal limit is just 35mcgs.
Following the arrest, chief inspector Claire Patterson, from West Yorkshire Police, said there was “always an alternative” to driving while drunk.
He said: “It is easy to go over the limit having drinks at a friend’s BBQ or soaking up the sun in a beer garden.
“Our advice is to plan ahead and think about how you are going to get home.
“There is always an alternative to driving whilst under the influence.
“At the very least you face losing your licence and potentially your livelihood if you are caught drink or drug driving, but the cold, hard reality is that drink and drug driving does kill.
“Our officers see the catastrophic aftermath of the mentality of ‘I’ll be ok to drive.’
“Please don’t let us be knocking on the door of your loved one, all for the sake of taking drugs or having a few drinks.”
