Warriors star faces scrutiny over wrist tape obscenity
Warriors prop Kane Evans is facing scrutiny from the NRL after an obscenity was spotted written on his wrist tape during New Zealand’s loss to the Panthers on Sunday afternoon.
Evans was sitting on the bench as 18th man when his wrist tape was caught by broadcast cameras showing the phrase “fold some c–t”.
Though he did not play in the game which saw four of his teammates exit through injury, the colourful language on his hand has attracted the attention of the NRL.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the NRL has said they will “examine the incident” during their weekly review on Monday.
The 29-year-old is expected to receive a sanction for his actions.
Evans’ sanction would be the cherry on top of what was a miserable round 18 for the Warriors after being beaten 30-16 by the Penrith Panthers at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.
A nightmare first half saw four key Warriors players – skipper Roger Tuivasa-Sheck (concussion), Tohu Harris (ACL), Wayde Egan (shoulder) and Rocco Berry (hamstring) – all forced off with injury, leaving their interchange bench empty with more than a half of the game to go.
In 2016 Andrew Fifita was infamously fined $20,000 for a message on his wrist tape in support of Kieran Loveridge who was convicted of coward-punching Thomas Kelly, which led to the implementation of Sydney’s lockout laws.
