The app allows hungry Brits to purchase food on their phones while they wait in the queue.

But this could leave you slapped with £1k fine and six points for breaching the highway code rules.

RAC spokesperson Rod Dennis told the Mirror : “Every driver should always ensure they are parked and have their engine switched off before using a handheld phone – anything else could land them in trouble, even if they are in a car park, drive-thru or petrol forecourt.”

It’s been illegal to use a mobile phone while driving since 2003, but rules have been toughened up since.

You can’t use your phone in your car, including reading a text, checking social media or taking a photo.

From March 25, 2022, any form of touching your phone will be illegal and result in a penalty.

The law applies even if you are stopped at traffic lights or queuing in traffic as your engine is still running.

You can only use a handheld phone if you are safely parked or need to call 999 or 112 in an emergency and it is unsafe or impractical to stop.

Drivers can also use their mobiles for contactless payments if a vehicle is stationary at a drive-thru takeaway.

The new McDonald’s app allows fans to order a kids happy meal, a sausage and egg mcmuffin breakfast or the classic cheeseburger from their phones.

The app can keep customers up to date with the franchise’s latest deals as there’s a whole tab dedicated to discounts.

Users can also order and pay contact free with options to pick up their order via the drive-thru, or have it delivered to their car by a click and serve bay.
