Warning for EVERY iPhone owner after Apple rolls out critical update

APPLE is urging iPhone owners to update their handsets after rooting out more than 35 security issues on iOS.

The U.S. tech titan rolled out the latest version of the iPhone software, iOS 15.6, to protect people from potential cyber attacks.

It’s likely to be the last major iPhone update before the release of iOS 16, which will launch alongside a suite of new iPhones in September.

Many of the bugs could allow an app to execute “arbitrary code”, a technique hackers use to run dodgy tasks on a victim’s phone.

Most iPhone vulnerabilities are hunted out by external experts and anonymous researchers.

The reason Apple lists so many routinely is because they are kept a closely guarded secret until a fix is found.

This prevents cybercrooks from taking advantage of them as Apple rolls out an update before the vulnerability is more widely known.

“For our customers’ protection, Apple doesn’t disclose, discuss, or confirm security issues until an investigation has occurred and patches or releases are available,” Apple said.

But the latest iOS update wasn’t all about security issues.

The firm has also made some noticeable tweaks on the surface – albeit very small ones.

Among them is a change to the Apple TV app that adds the option to pause, rewind, or fast-forward a live sports game.

It follows the company’s move into live sports. Apple is exclusively broadcasting some Major League Baseball games this season.

The update also fixes an issue in which the Settings app displayed that device storage was full even when it was available.

A problem with Safari where a tab sometimes reverted back to a previous page has also been resolved.

The update should roll-out to iPhone owners automatically but you can force it to download and install immediately.

You can do that by going to Settings, followed by About, then Software Update.

It’s possibly the final significant update of iOS 15, which launched last September.

Coming this year is iOS 16, which will give the iPhone operating system a much-needed lick of paint.

Apple has revealed that the new update adds loads of clever tricks, including the ability to unsend and edit iMessages.

It also introduces a brand new Lock Screen that you can totally customise.

And it’ll even support widgets on the Lock Screen too.

Sadly iOS 16 probably won’t arrive on your iPhone until September, launching alongside the iPhone 14.
