Warner announces plan for Test cricket retirement
David Warner has revealed he plans on finishing his Test career in Sydney next year, saying he wishes to call time after Australia hosts Pakistan in January.
Warner outlined his thinking as he spoke to media in Beckenham ahead of next week’s World Test Championship final against India at The Oval.
The 36-year-old from New South Wales drew a line through the two home Tests against the West Indies that will follow the series against Pakistan, but reiterated his desire to keep playing white-ball cricket until the 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA.

“You’ve got to score runs,” Warner said on Saturday.
“I’ve always said the (2024) World Cup would probably be my final game.
“I probably owe it to myself and my family … I can score runs here and continue to play back in Australia…
“I can definitely say I won’t be playing that West Indies series.
“If I can get through this (WTC decider and the Ashes) and make the Pakistan series I will definitely finish up then.”
Warner was picked in Australia’s squads for the World Test Championship final and the Ashes despite a lean recent run with the bat.
The left-hander has only reached 100 on one occasion from his last 32 innings.
On Australia’s tour of India across February and March, he only mustered 26 runs at the average of 8.66.
Warner only batted three times in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, with the veteran withdrawing during the second Test after suffering an elbow fracture and a concussion.
