Vrinda Kher remembers filming the gruesome climax of The Kashmir Files
Vrinda Kher, Anupam Kher’s niece and co-star in The Kashmir Files, has said that filming the film’s climactic scene was very difficult for her and the rest of the cast. Vrinda also revealed that her co-star Bhasha Sumbli had a breakdown while filming the emotionally charged moment.
The Kashmir Files, a film on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the valley in the 1990s, starring Vrinda in the role of Bhawani Kaul, a Kashmiri Pandit who is among those displaced. The film has a bleak ending in which militants posing as security officers round up Kashmiri Pandits in a migrant camp and execute them. The violent scene also features actor Bhasha Sumbli’s portrayal of Sharda Pandit, a woman from the group.
Vrinda said it was difficult for the team to film the conclusion since they had to recall real-life incidents to bring out the emotions in the sequence. According to the actor, who spoke to a leading daily about it, “The climax scene, in which Bitta tears off Sharda’s clothes was particularly hard for all of us. Bhasha broke down and it was very hard for her to be part of that scene. So, all the emotions that came out on screen were actually real. To imagine that someone actually went through this was very difficult.”
Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumaar, Puneet Issar, and Mrinal Kulkarni appear alongside Anupam, Vrinda, and Bhasha in the film.
