Vision Pro: How Apple’s Vision Pro headset will help surgeons for medical purposes – Times of India

Apple unveiled its first-ever mixed-reality headset, Vision Pro, at its annual developer conference, WWDC 2023. The AR/VR device will not only help users to view content in a more immersive way but is also expected to help medical personnel with their jobs. Apple’s mixed-reality headset reportedly has the potential to help surgeons by providing vital data during surgical practices.
How Apple Vision Pro will help surgeons
In an interview with WMTV8, a US-based surgeon named Dr Rafael Grossmann, laid out suggestions for doctors to use Apple’s Vision Pro headset. Grossmann, who is a general surgeon with a background in robotic surgery, was also the first doctor to live-stream a surgery using Google Glass.
He believes that the Apple Vision Pro can be a big help for surgeons in the middle of an operation when information is key to a patient’s survival.
“Within the operating room, you are gathering data in mixed reality that is helping you in real-time, in a synchronous fashion, do the procedure,” Grossmann explained about the mixed-reality technology he is currently using.
The surgeon further notes that with this headset, doctors won’t need to turn their heads to see the computer screen. With spatial computing, the displays can be anywhere in the room. In case of surgery, the display can be placed within the wearer’s eye line.

Apple Vision Pro’s other use cases
Apart from surgeries, doctors can employ Apple’s headset in other ways, Grossmann proposed. He notes that Vision Pro can also provide more connection between doctor and patient.
For example, the headset can include a digital assistant for physicians to handle basic tasks like note-taking, or searching for information from the patient’s records. The digital assistant can be aided by powerful generative artificial intelligence, such as ChatGPT.
“I think that a large language model — such as ChatGPT or equivalent — will really really make that happen and give us, again, superpowers to be the human healers that we need to be,” Grossmann added.
