Victoria has recorded 996 new locally acquired Covid-19 infections on Wednesday as Premier Daniel Andrews flags a further easing of restrictions.
The number of new daily infections has fallen in the past four days, with the state posting 1221 new cases on Saturday, 905 infections on Sunday, 860 on Monday and 797 on Tuesday.
Nine more people died with the virus in the past 24 hours, while 72,010 people were tested for Covid-19.
There are 14,260 active cases in the state, with357 people in hospital, 58 people in intensive care and 35 on a ventilator.
About 87 per cent of Victorian residents aged over 12 are fully vaccinated.
NSW recorded 231 new cases, while 207 people are in hospital with the virus.
It comes as Mr Andrews hinted at a new raft of freedoms where Victorians could look forward to “essentially no rules” in the coming days.
The Premier on Tuesday hinted that the announcement about the new Covid-19 changes could be made this week.
“It might be Thursday. it might be Friday. might be Saturday. It’s not today. It’ll be when I’m ready to make that announcement,” he said.
Restrictions are set to ease further in Victoria once 90 per cent of those aged 12 and over are double-dose vaccinated, which is anticipated to be on November 24
Gathering limits, capacity and density limits will no longer apply when the state hits that threshold.
