Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof is tipping Anthony Elanga to carve out a ‘great future’ for himself at Old Trafford.

The 19-year-old was a surprise starter in United’s 2-2 draw against Aston Villa on Saturday and he certainly took his opportunity, coming close to scoring on two occasions and looking lively throughout.

Elanga’s scored seven times in eight appearances for Sweden’s U21s and he’s pushing for a spot in the full national side, where he’d play alongside Lindelof.

And the former Benfica ace is tipping his compatriot to make his mark for club and country in the near future, with Lindelof hailing the winger as a ‘great talent’.

‘Of course, I talk to him a lot,’ said Lindelof.

‘He’s a great talent and I’m very happy for him, getting more and more minutes at the club.

‘He’s a young player, a good talent, who comes in here every day and really wants to improve his game. He works very, very hard and I’m pleased for him.

‘If he keeps doing the things he’s doing at the moment, I think he’s going to have a great future ahead of him. It’s all about staying humble and to keep working hard.’

Elanga’s inclusion at Villa Park was partly down to the absence of Marcus Rashford, who missed the game with a dead leg.

The England international was back in training yesterday, alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, who missed the game with a hip injury.

Both Rashford and Ronaldo are expected to return for the trip to Brentford on Wednesday.
