Veteran loose forward Mohoje to play 100th game for Cheetahs | The Citizen

Almost forgotten Springbok loose forward Teboho “Oupa” Mohoje will play his 100th game on Friday evening when the Cheetahs take on neighbours, the Griffons, in the Currie Cup.

Mohoje’s Cheetahs debut came in 2013 while the first of his 19 Springbok Tests came the following year in 2014, against Scotland in Port Elizabeth.

‘Good outweighs the bad’

Mohoje, whose career has been interrupted by numerous injuries over the years, expressed his gratitude for making it to 100 caps for the Cheetahs.

“I am grateful to have gone where I have with the Cheetahs,” said the loose forward.

“I don’t think I’d do it with any other club than the Cheetahs. It’s been a lot of hard work and tears, but I can mostly say that the good outweighs the bad, so I’m privileged to have gone this far.”

Mohoje played his first match for the Cheetahs a week after his 23rd birthday, against the Lions at Ellis Park, Johannesburg, on 10 August 2013.

Currie Cup debut

“My first Currie Cup game was in 2013 against the Lions, and we won. The following year I played my first Super Rugby game. It was against the Chiefs. We drew that game, which was the beginning of big things for me. It was hard to leave Super Rugby, but going to the Pro14 and making it to the quarter-finals in our first season was incredible.”

Earlier in his career, Mohoje played for the University of the Free State side, the Shimlas, in the Varsity Cup competitions in 2011, 2012, and 2013 (as captain). In 2013, he was voted the “Player That Rocks”.
