Varun Dhawan teases his OTT debut. Says, Something is in works

Varun Dhawan is a busy man. The actor is currently gearing up for the release of his next film JugJugg Jeeyo. The film features Dhawan in a starry ensemble cast including Kiara Advani, Anil Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor. While he’s currently doing promotional rounds for the film, he teased his OTT debut.

Varun Dhawan dropped hints about making his digital debut at a recent press conference. As per a news portal, when the actor was asked if he’s going to join the line-up of Bollywood stars signing up for digital releases, he said, “I really can’t give details about this, but something is in works. Hai kuch… something Prime.”

He also explained, “Duniya jo hai bohot chhoti hoti ja rahi hai (the world is becoming smaller) where information and technology is concerned. Kuch genres behtar streaming pe chalegi, kuch kuch theatres pe chalegi (Some genres work better on streaming, some work in theatres). But definitely, the audience wants to consume content, they want to be entertained for sure. Right now, jo environment hai (considering the circumstances), we want entertainment. We want to laugh, we want to enjoy, zyada gyan nahi chahiye logon ko (audiences don’t want anything preachy). There is an over-burst of information, and we want entertainment from cinema, right now.”

Varun Dhawan

As per several reports that emerged earlier this year, Varun Dhawan is set to make his digital debut with Citadel alongside Samantha Ruth Prabhu. The series helmed by filmmaker duo Raj and DK is the Indian spin-off of the global show created by the Russo Brothers and Patrick Moran. Priyanka Chopra is currently filming for the international series alongside Richard Madden.

But before that, Varun Dhawan will soon appear on the big screen in Jugjugg Jeeyo. The comedy film that revolves around a Punjabi family will tackle the subject of married life and divorce. In it, the actor will essay the role of Kuku whose marriage with Naina (Kiara Advani) is on the rocks. The film arrives in theatres on June 24 this year.
