Process of Vaping
An e-cigarette heats a liquid within a cartridge until it turns into vapour that you inhale. The liquids may contain nicotine or marijuana. Why Teens would Vape
What originally was an aid to help smokers quit smoking, it has rapidly become a successful and addictive product itself. Many researchers blame the design of e-cigarettes saying that they are designed and advertised to appeal to teens attraction to innovation. The sleek design and ease of use is said to have correlations to products such as apple phones which further attracts teens. Critics have pointed out that advertisement for vapes include youthful images and colours with the message that seems to convey that vaping makes you happier and improves your social status. Vaping companies have denied that their advertising is aimed at the younger generation. Things amongst friend groups such as peer pressure and a will to fit in can also lead to teens vaping. They have also been lead to believe that vaping is a lot less dangerous than smoking cigarettes so believe that vaping will have no significant effect on the health.
The Health Issues
Health issues that are caused by vaping include:
– Addiction: the most pressing effect and what makes it so hard for vapers and smokers to quit. E-Cigarettes contain nicotine which is a substance that is highly addictive. Even if someone does not vape daily they can become addicted.
– Heart and Lungs: Can damage the function of the body’s blood vessels, increasing the risk for cardiovascular disease. E-cigarettes produce a number of dangerous chemicals including aldehydes which can cause lung disease.
– Depression and Anxiety: Nicotine can affect dperession and anxiety for the worse. It affects concentration,self-control, the development of the body especially the brain.
– Sleep issues
– Cancers
There are other effects that vaping has on the body that haven’t be mentioned or are yet to be discovered.
Other Issues
– Can lead to use of other tobacco products
– The vapour is poisonous
– Damage to lungs can cause a lower standard of performance in sport
– Vaping is expensive as you continue to buy cartridges
How to Quit
The listed ways blow are a few pointer tips that can help you quit vaping however it is always better to consult a doctor or someone who specialises in quitting from an addiction.
Some ways of quitting are:
– Exercising has been a reliable way to get rid off craving
– Download apps that help you manage your cravings (e.g Smokefree.gov)
– Try chewing gum
– Find ways to relieve stress (yoga/meditation)
– Try and slowly stop instead of trying to stop immediately due to withdrawal effects.
– Find a friend or someone you trust or someone who has already quitted vaping/smoking who can help you quit.
– Find ways to distract yourself such as a new hobby
