US Rockers Mötley Crüe surprise fans with intimate gig in London
Eighties rock icons Mötley Crüe surprised 450 fans at The Underworld Club in London’s Camden on Friday night when they took to the stage for a secret show ahead of their huge Wembley Stadium gig tonight.
The group, consisting of vocalist Vince Neil, bassist Nikki Sixx, drummer Tommy Lee and guitarist John 5, treated the crowd to a powerhouse set that was packed full of their hits.
Alongside their iconic anthems Shout At The Devil, Dr. Feelgood and Girls, Girls, Girls they also included a premiere of their cover of Beastie Boys’ classic Fight For Your Right.
The band said: “This wasn’t our first time playing a secret club show and it will definitely not be the last.
“We love doing this, especially before larger shows. We love when we can play these intimate shows for our fans.”
Following their performance they took to Twitter to describe it as “a show for the ages!”
Rumours that the band would be playing a secret gig first surfaced when a cryptic flyer appeared on their Twitter for a show by a group called Dogs Of War.
It quickly sold out with the band posting a picture of the exterior of the venue announcing the news.
To fans’ delight, it turned out that Dogs Of War is actually the name of one of the brand new songs that the group have recorded with legendary producer Bob Rock.
Fans were quick to take to social media to share their excitement at seeing the legends in such an intimate space.
@AlanGParker1 tweeted: “Tonight was incredible! Dogs of War! @MotleyCrue @NikkiSixx @MrTommyLand @thevinceneil @john5guitarist now roll on Wembley!” (sic)
A Twitter user called @_rhichu_ wrote: “20ft from the stage, right by the stairs to the pit so timy me could actually see. So surreal and incredible. So much energy in that little room! Forgot how small it was in there. #MotleyCrue #DogsOfWar” (sic)
Meanwhile @Walker_this_way said: “One of the most surreal nights of my life; Motley Crue in Camden in front of 400 people…mad!”
The gig came in advance of the band’s show at Wembley Stadium in front of 50,000 fans tonight.
The massive gig is part of their current tour with Def Leppard, which will see them his Dublin on July 4 and Glasgow on July 6 before they head back to the U.S. for more stadium shows in August.
