Chris Serrano, an advertising professional based in the US who recently lost his job, received numerous job offers from around the world after skydiving with a sign that read ‘open to work’.

In a LinkedIn post last week, Serrano shared a video clip of his skydiving adventure, along with a message expressing his availability for new opportunities.

The post stated, “I got laid off last week. So I’ll be freefalling until I find a new gig – literally. If you’re looking for an award-winning creative that works hard, takes risks, and knows how to pack a parachute, reach out. Don’t let your brand plunge to its death. Hire me instead.”

To his surprise, Serrano woke up the next day to find his post had garnered 2 million impressions and attracted a flood of feedback and job offers from all over the world. One of the offers came from a start-up company in Manchester, England.

Jack Peagam, CEO of Linkup, a social networking app, came across Serrano’s post on LinkedIn and was captivated by his unique approach. Peagam, who was also in search of a creative director, flew to the Canary Islands, the nearest place with suitable weather for skydiving, to respond in an equally creative manner.

During his own skydiving session, Peagam held a banner that said, “Hey, Chris, sorry 2 see you got laid off. We’ve got work 4 u. Let’s link up.”

Serrano expressed his astonishment at Peagam’s response, stating that he couldn’t believe someone matched his energy and took the job offer to another level. He was impressed by the creativity and effort put into the gesture.

Now, Serrano is planning his new career with Linkup and reflecting on the valuable lesson he learned from being laid off. He encouraged others to be different and pursue their passions, emphasizing that sometimes unexpected doors open when you put yourself out there and do what you love.
