Upcoming Roblox AI Will Facilitate In-Game Content Creation

Popular online game Roblox is developing a tool to produce “generative AI materials from a text prompt,” says its recent blog.

Chief Technology Officer Daniel Sturman saw the rise of artificial intelligence as an “opportunity to revolutionize creation on the platform.”

It would “make creation dramatically faster and easier, enabling every user on Roblox to be a creator.”

Let us briefly discuss what Roblox is so that we can talk about its upcoming AI tool. The game came out on September 1, 2006, and it describes itself as follows:

“The ultimate virtual universe that lets you create, share experiences with friends, and be anything you can imagine.”

It lets players create a digital character and build environments using in-game or user-made assets.

Also, players could visit each other’s worlds and interact with each other. That could involve playing games or chatting with the community.

The player characters look like LEGO men but blockier. Meanwhile, the environments are usually bright and cheery.

Despite its casual appearance, Roblox allows a wide range of customization options for users.

For example, some players created entirely new games in Roblox, such as third-person shooters and role-playing games (RPGs).

Companies use it for marketing purposes. For example, Nike released a metaverse platform in Roblox called Nikeland, featuring its latest sneakers.

Korean carmaker Hyundai recently launched a Roblox space so that players could ride Hyundai vehicles in scenic Philippine environments.

How will the Roblox AI tool function?

Roblox released a video demo on YouTube that explains the company’s plans for its AI tool. It only lasts 30 seconds, but it seems it could significantly improve user experience.

It starts with a wide shot of a car and a text box at the top-left named “AI materials.” The latter shows player prompts that apply various textures to the automobile.

For example, the Roblox AI box entered the phrase “brushed metal diamond plate pattern,” and the vehicle sported a patterned metallic finish.

Next, the tool inputted “purple foil, crumpled pattern, reflective,” and the car gained a shiny violet surface.

The video transitioned to a new feature that lets players change the car’s controls. It assigned the H key for turning the headlights on and off.

It wrote, “blink the headlights when the user presses ‘B’” and changed how it behaved with plain text commands.

The video showed the car speeding down a road for a few seconds before showing another feature.

The Roblox AI seemed to change in-game weather effects based on simple text prompts, similar to how ChatGPT works.

As a result, Roblox AI could make game design and development significantly easier. You could create your first 3D video game without programming knowledge.

It could make the game more accessible and increase its player base. Moreover, Roblox could open more possibilities for online businesses.

Conclusion

A Roblox AI tool is coming soon, and it will likely revolutionize video game content creation for players and developers.

However, this kiddie game isn’t the only one riding the AI trend. For example, Alethea AI recently launched CharacterGPT for video games.

It implements human-like personalities to non-playable characters or NPCs so that games become more immersive.
