Unstoppable Souths star stamps Origin credentials in win

Campbell Graham’s near perfect 2023 season went from strength to strength on Saturday afternoon, and he’s got a major supporter in a former NSW five-eighth as the Rabbitohs scored a comfortable 20-0 win over the Tigers.

The Australian representative was too much to handle on the right edge, claiming a try assist and seven tackle breaks.

With strong performances all season, the centre will prove difficult to leave out for Brad Fittler’s NSW Blues side with game one to be played on May 31.

Graham’s teammate Cody Walker – who previously played for the Blues in 2019 and 2020 and is contention again – believes there’s even more to come from the centre.

Milne draws first blood for Souths

“I think Stretch (Campbell Graham) has been arguably one of our most consistent players ever since he came into grade,” he told Fox League post-game.

“I still remember his first game at the SCG, he was still in school and was a string beam, but the work he’s been able to do over the pre-season has put him in a great position for rep honours.

“He’s had an outstanding year and I think he’s only going to get better.”

Souths were made to work hard for its win with the Tigers turning up in defence.

Milne scores a double

After 24 minutes, Taane Milne had his first try for the afternoon, cruising over thanks to a Graham assist. At half-time with the score 6-0 the Tigers were still a chance but a penalty goal to Souths in the 51st minute started to put that comeback out of reach.

A tackle break from Graham then helped set up another Milne try with eight minutes to go before Latrell Mitchell scored his own in the 76th minute to deliver a 20-0 victory.

Rabbitohs forward Jed Cartwright will serve the 11-day protocol after suffering a category one concussion in the second half.

Another bench player, Tom Burgess, was a late withdrawal from the match five minutes prior to kick off but coach Jason Demetriou believes he’ll recover from a back spasm by the next Friday when his side plays the Eels at Allianz Stadium.
