Unai Emery details Newcastle talks and hints he will quit Villarreal despite ‘no offer’
Unai Emery has offered Newcastle supporters hope he is on his way to Tyneside after confirming talks with the Magpies. The Spaniard was speaking after what could prove to be his final game in charge of Villarreal as his side beat Young Boys 2-0 in Champions League Group F action at the Estadio de la Ceramica.
Ahead of the game, reports emerged that Emery was set to take charge of Newcastle later this week ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Brighton.
Villarreal were rightly incensed as the board publicly reiterated that Emery was tied down to a contract with the Spanish club, who he guided to Europa League glory last season against Manchester United in Gdansk.
Now Emery, who was mysteriously late to address the media after tonight’s match, has provided some transparency on the situation, refusing to rule out a swift departure for the North East.
“We play against Getafe on Sunday and this victory will help us,” he told Movistar.

Meanwhile, Villarreal midfielder Dani Parejo said it was business as usual tonight, stating there was no indication to suggest Emery could be off.
“We haven’t spoken about anything like that or thought about what might happen,” he said.
“The coach was completely focused like any other match. If there’s something in it let him say it, it’s not up to us.”
Emery is understood to have held extensive talks with the Newcastle hierarchy on Sunday evening with the former Arsenal boss now the preferred choice of the club’s hierarchy.

The Magpies have interviewed a number of managers for the vacancy including Paulo Fonseca, Eddie Howe and Lucien Favre.
Yet Emery’s European pedigree, Premier League experience and tactical blueprint has now seem his elevated to the leading contender for the role.
Newcastle will have to pay a compensation fee of around £6million if they are to release him from his Newcastle contract.
More talks are expected between Newcastle and Emery on Wednesday.
