UK’s top ten postcodes for car thefts revealed – is your area on the list?

THE UK’s top ten postcodes for car thefts have been revealed – with drivers in Leicester, Slough and Swindon the most at risk.

And Ford Fiestas, VW Golfs, Ford Focuses and Vauxhall Corsas are the most-popular cars to be nicked, DVLA data has revealed.

The most at-risk locations are broken down by postcode in the data, revealed in a Freedom of Information request to the government body.

Leicester’s LE2 comes out on top with 342 stolen cars reported in the last year – followed closely by SL1 in Slough with 285 and Swindon’s SN5 with 268.

Coming in fourth is the GU11 postcode in Aldershot with 263, while Birmingham B25 had 256, the Sunday People reports.

The well-off postcodes in Aldershot and Swindon saw pricier cars on thieves’ radars – with Range Rover Evoques and Land Rover Discoverys coming out on top, the paper reports.

In total, 75,000 cars were stolen in the UK in the last year alone – or one every seven minutes.

Remote control jammers are becoming an increasingly common tool used by car thieves.

Crooks hold down a button as an owner operates his remote key and the radio wave signal is blocked, causing the car not to lock. They can work within 100 metres of a car.

An estimated 872,000 vehicle-related thefts across England and Wales in 2015 and more than 237,000 thefts from a vehicle.

One gang was jailed last year for stealing £700,000 worth of Range Rovers and Land Rovers in London using a jamming device.

Many drivers targeted by key fob thieves cannot claim on insurance because there is no evidence of forced entry.
