UK’s most remote pub is offering free beer all summer – here’s how to get it
BRIT holidaymakers can get a free pint at the UK’s most remote pub this summer, but it’ll require some effort.
The Old Forge pub officially holds the Guinness Record for being the most remote pub on the mainland in Britain.
And, this summer the remote pub is offering free beer to any holidaymakers who make the epic journey to its door.
Sports retailer Wiggle has partnered with Knoydart Brewery to launch Trale – a limited-edition ale only available at the Scottish pub.
From July 1, pubgoers will need to say the word “wiggle” at the bar to redeem their freebie.
Beers will be limited to two per person until stocks last and non-alcoholic alternatives will also be available.
The remote pub can be reached by boat or a two-day hike.
To travel there by foot, you need to get to Kinloch Hourn in the Scottish Highlands, before going on the 18-mile hike to the village of Inverie on the coast of the Knoydart Peninsula.
If you want an easier drink, then there is a sea ferry route from Mallaig.
Stephanie Harris, of The Old Forge, said: “We are very excited to be partnering with Wiggle to showcase the beauty and adventure our little part of the world has to offer – and the great Knoydart beer!
“Having recently carried out an extensive refurb on our community-owned pub, we are looking forward to reopening the doors and welcoming folk in at the end of their epic trail over the hills of the Rough Bounds to get here. Slainte.”
Huw Crwys-Williams, CEO at Wiggle added: “Visiting this remote peninsula is a special experience and we hope that gifting hikers and punters with a Trale will make it even more special… just remember to quote ‘Wiggle’ when at the bar!”
Last year, the pub was given £219,000 from the Government’s levelling up pot to save it from shutting.
And after it was announced that the pub was going to be sold, a huge fundraiser turned over £320k to keep it open.
Meanwhile, you can get paid to live on a remote Scottish island – and your accommodation is included.
