Ukrainian girl goes viral on TikTok with videos of her ‘bomb shelter’ life

A Ukrainian girl has become an unlikely TikTok sensation amid her country’s war with Russia, sharing social media videos of her family’s bomb shelter and the shelled-out city of Chernihiv.

The youngster, who posts under the handle @Valerisssh, has garnered more than 300,000 followers since Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine two weeks ago.

The TikTokker’s age has not been reported, but she reportedly is living in a below-ground bunker with her parents, as the conflict shows no signs of abating

One video, titled “My Typical Day In A Bomb Shelter,” has been viewed a whopping 22 million times and shows @Valerisssh hunkering down with her family.

In the clip, the Ukrainian is seen partaking in seemingly mundane activities inside the shelter, including playing with her dog and drying her hair

She later heads outside, walking back to her family’s actual home to collect more belongings to bring to the bunker.

On her way, @Valerisssh shows viewers what “Putin has done to the city,” with destroyed buildings and debris seen lining the streets.

The clip is set to the upbeat song “Che Cha Luna” by jazz singer Louis Prima, providing some levity to the otherwise bleak situation.

In a separate clip, set to Future and Gunna’s rap song “pushin P,” @Valerissh shows off the bomb shelter’s gym and jokes that it’s actually a 5-star hotel.

Other videos show the Ukrainian posing outside bombed-out buildings and dancing to trendy TikTok tracks amid piles of rubble.

While some have found @Valerisssh’s hyper-stylized, influencer-esque videos jarring considering the wartime context, others have praised her for giving insight into the conflict in real-time.

“The internet changed war as we know it,” one posted, while another remarked: “Imagine students watching this in a history class one day.”

The TikTokker has even garnered a legion of fans in the US, with one writing: “You amaze the world with your resilience. Love from America.”
