A VILLAGE in the UK has been compared to the Mediterranean due to its sandy beaches with clear blue seas.
Staycations are becoming increasingly popular this summer, with the cost of travel abroad on the rise.

And with villages like East Portlemouth in Devon, there’s plenty on offer for those who wish to stay in the UK.
Tiktoker Zoe (@shewalksinengland) visited the village on her trip to Devon and compared it to scenes she’d experienced abroad in the Mediterranean, rather than at home.
She shared a video of her trip, which she captioned: “This place in England is just like the Mediterranean” because of its “crystal clear water and light coloured sand”.
More than 1,100 people commented on her footage, with several people agreeing that it looked more exotic than an English seaside.
One wrote: “Crystal clear water, light coloured sand.”
Another said: “One of my favourite places in the world, it’s simply beautiful all year round.”
A third added: “It’s very similar to Rias Baixas in Galicia. North Spain.”
East Portlemouth doesn’t just have the looks however, with Visit South Devon claiming it also has plenty of natural beauty and peace and quiet.
They said: “If you want a beach holiday that gets you away from the crowds and gives you a chance to relax in peace and quiet, then East Portlemouth is well worth a visit.
“It’s set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is one of the quieter beaches in the area, making it an ideal spot for families or couples who want to leave the world behind.”
The village is actually made up of several small beaches, including Fisherman’s Cove, Smalls Cove and Mill Bay.
All of them have won Safe Bathing status, meaning the water is clean and safe for paddling.

Visit South Devon continue: “At low tide you’ll find loads of shallow rock pools, which will keep budding marine biologists or just kids who love looking at critters occupied for hours.”
Those who wish to explore slightly further can catch a daily ferry from Fisherman’s Cove to nearby Salcombe, where they can find busier beaches.
There’s more to the village than beaches as well and bikes can be hired to explore the area on wheels, including on e-bikes.
There are also plenty of hiking trails as well for those are more interested in taking in their surroundings on foot.
The Venus Cafe serves takeaway pasties, baguettes, ice creams, coffee and cream teas to visitors, while the Ferry Inn is less than a mile away.
The waterside pub, is “perfect for a few drinks after a day at the beach or out on the water,” according to Toad Hall Cottages.
They added: “Watch the boats go by from the large sunny terrace whilst enjoying a pint of local ale or something from the menu full of good pub classics.”
Sailor V cafe, Dick & Mills Brasserie and the Jetty Restaurant are all within a mile of the village too, giving holidaymakers plenty of options.
The village has received great feedback from visitors online.
One wrote on TripAdvisor: “This is a perfect day out. A bit of everything, the ferry, the walk, the atmosphere, the remoteness then the pub/cafe options or restaurants make this a well worthwhile experience. Recommend.”
Another added: “This is a fantastic place to walk to and if you go out of season you can have it all to yourselves! Stunning part of the country.”
Humans aren’t the only creatures who appreciate the clean waters in the area either, with plenty of marine life coming to visit too.
According to South Devon AONB: “The sea occasionally yields sightings of dolphins, seals, even whales – and basking sharks sometimes visit these waters in the summer to feed on plankton.”
Hotels in the area start from around £50pp per night.
However, tent pitches can be booked from £12 per night.
Meanwhile, this UK seaside town is almost like visiting a Greek island.
