Two Diablo 4 Expansions Are in the Works, Diablo Boss Says

Two Diablo 4 expansions are in the works at Blizzard, Diablo franchise head Rod Fergusson has said.

That’s what Blizzard’s General Manager of all things Diablo said in a recent interview with Kinda Funny about the game’s reception, future work, and more. We’ve included the interview with the former Gears of War head down below.

“As I sit here we’re about to launch the main game, we’re finishing up season one, we’re working on season two, we’re working on expansion one, we’re kicking off expansion two… we’re working on that now [laughs] and we haven’t even launched the game.”

Interestingly, back in December of last year, Diablo IV director Joe Shely already mentioned that the game will receive “frequent” expansions,  offering new stories as well as new classes and new quests.

“The launch of Diablo 4 is just the beginning”, Shely said in an interview last year. “The team that’s building Diablo 4 is going to be moving from building Diablo 4 to working on the live service, and working on our expansions for the game. We’re going to [release] frequent expansions which have new stories, new quests, new classes – those kinds of things; and our live service, which will feature seasons every three months that include major new seasonal features on a much grander scale than we’ve seen in things like Diablo 3, because again, all the people building the game are going to be working on seasons, working on expansions. And yes, it will feature a season pass that will serve as a companion to each season and its seasonal features.”

Of course, although the game hasn’t been fully released just yet, the most logical new addition to the game would be the Paladin/Crusader class, although we’ve also seen fans asking for the Monk and Witch Doctor.

After having launched in 2012, Diablo 3 received a single expansion – the Reaper of Souls DLC introducing the Crusader alongside a fifth act, an adventure mode, Nephalem Rifts, and more.

Diablo 4 is out tomorrow for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. The game can already be played via early access.
