Twitter HQ won’t move out of San Francisco, says Elon Musk

Social media platform X, the rebranded version of Twitter, will not move its headquarters out of Silicon Valley’s technology hub San Francisco, Elon Musk said in a post.

The Tesla and Space X founder & CEO said that X received ‘rich incentives’ to move its headquarters out of San Francisco but he has refused the offers.

“Many have offered rich incentives for X (fka Twitter) to move its HQ out of San Francisco. Moreover, the city is in a doom spiral with one company after another left or leaving. Therefore, they expect X will move too. We will not. You only know who your real friends are when the chips are down. San Francisco, beautiful San Francisco, though others forsake you, we will always be your friend,” said Musk in a post on X.

Musk’s post came hours after he shared a video of X’s headquarters adorned with the company’s logo in San Francisco.

The Californian city has launched an investigation into a giant “X” sign that was installed Friday on top of the downtown building formerly known as Twitter headquarters, AP reported.

In April this year, referring to the deserted downtown area of the city, Musk had called San Francisco the town of ‘walking dead’. Tech layoffs and prolonged work-from-home conditions have given San Francisco somewhat a deserted look.“You could literally film a Walking Dead episode unedited in downtown SF. This is where San Francisco politics leads and Twitter was exporting this self-destructive mind virus to the world. With some exceptions, other tech companies are still doing so. Evil in guise of good,” Musk had tweeted.

Last week Musk rebranded Twitter entirely by changing its name and logo to X. In a tweet on July 23, Musk, who became executive chairman of Twitter after giving up his CEO chair to former NBCUniversal executive Linda Yaccarino last month, said, “soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds”.
