Twitter accounts of news organisations ANI and NDTV suspended

Twitter on Saturday suspended the account of news agency Asian News International (ANI) citing a violation of the platform’s ‘age standards’.

Twitter’s terms of service state that users must be 13 years or older to create an account.

The news agency’s Editor shared a screenshot of the email sent by Twitter, which informed the news agency that their account has been locked.
“In order to create a Twitter account, you must be at least 13 years old. Twitter has determined that you don’t meet these age requirements, so your account has been locked and will be removed from Twitter,” the email read.

Later, the Elon Musk-led microblogging platform also locked the account of New Delhi Television (NDTV).

While ANI’s account has been blocked for age criteria violation, the reason behind the suspension of NDTV’s official handle is not known.

Searches on Twitter for NDTV’s English service account @NDTV and the @ANI handle both produced the message “This account doesn’t exist. Try searching for another.” Their other accounts appeared to be functional.
