While a perk of the job would be getting to try the food on offer when a chef comes to visit, an American TV presenter has hilariously had to spit out a dessert he didn’t quite take to live on air.

Fox4 New Kansas presenter Pat McGonigle was sampling a range of dishes available at venues around Kansas City on New Year’s Eve, but quickly realised his mistake when asking to try one of them.

Food and Beverage journalist David Eckert had already run Pat through part of what he deemed a ‘feast fit for a king’, which included seared tuna and slow braised bacon and a lobster pad thai.

But his interest was really piqued when he saw a colourful tapioca-based dessert that had been made by a chef especially for the celebrations.

‘Mind if I wolf one down?,’ he asked, before grabbing one of the treats and eating it in one go.

His face instantly dropped and it was obvious he regretted his choice.

‘Delicious isn’t it?,’ David asked.

Pat couldn't resist grabbing a piece.

Clearly the consummate professional Pat nodded and tried to say yes, but the fact he hadn’t actually swallowed it suggested it was anything but tasty.

‘You sure?,’ Pat added, also realising that the dessert wasn’t going down well.

It was at that point Pat completely stopped even attempting to talk and was looking towards a wall to his side trying to figure out what to do next.

He just kept nodding and looking at the camera operator with a panicked look on his face as his mouth was still evidently full of the dessert.

As soon as the camera zoomed in on a prawn dish, Pat took his chance and could be seen quickly moving off-screen, likely to spit it out as soon as he could.

While disposing of the dessert wasn’t seen by those watching along at home, he returned seconds later and was ready to talk again.

He then started showing off a bottle of champagne, which he might have been dying to have a drink of.

After the segment was posted on YouTube, people couldn’t get enough, with the local news broadcast video now having nearly 27,000 views.

‘The desperation in his eyes for the cameraman to change the shot so he can spit it out lol,’ one person commented.

‘How bad did it taste when you “wolfed” it down lol,’ another added.

Someone else said they were ‘so intimately familiar with that sound of half chewed food hitting cheap bulk purchase trash bags’.

‘It’s how almost every single “try it, I think you’ll like it” conversation end for me.’

It’s safe to say Pat won’t be going near any tapioca desserts this New Year’s Eve, or possibly ever again.
