Turbo bombshell hits Manly after Hasler axing

Manly superstar Tom Trbojevic has requested a meeting with his management following the sacking of coach Des Hasler.

Hasler was axed on Thursday following a board meeting, ending weeks of bitter back-and-forth.

Hours later, journalist Michael Chammas revealed to 9News that the club’s best player, Trbojevic, will gauge his options.

Trbojevic is on a deal worth $1.1 million a season and is considered arguably the best player in the NRL, but has been hampered by injuries in recent years. He won the Dally M Medal in 2021.

Chammas says Trbojevic will sit down with his agent Paul Sutton on Friday.

“Tom will sit down over Zoom with his management company to discuss his future and what that holds,” Chammas told 9News.

“Tomorrow is a big day for the club.”

Sutton on Wednesday issued a statement to 9News confirming Tom – and his older brother Jake – were disappointed by the unrest at the club.

”They have expressed concern to me about the instability at the club,” Sutton said.

Turbo unsettled by Hasler sacking

“It has got them worried. They have not spoken to me about leaving the club but they are concerned about staying there.”

Both Trbojevic brothers are State of Origin and Test representative players, and in 2019 signed six-year contract extensions worth a combined $13 million.

The Sydney Morning Herald revealed this week those contracts do not have a clause in them linked to Hasler coaching the NRL team. The brothers were reportedly keen to have a Hasler clause in their deals, but they eventually signed deals without them, due to the club’s refusal to include such a clause.

That fact will make it difficult for the superstars to agitate an early exit.
