TUI issues travel warning following new holiday test rules
TUI has updated their travel warning for passengers as the new Omicron variant leads to border closures and cancelled flights.
New rules are also enforcing Covid tests on holidaymakers once again, both to travel and to return to the UK.
TUI said in their latest statement on their website: “Following the UK Government announcement, we are aware of the changes to post travel testing requirements.
“All travellers returning to the UK will now need to take a PCR day two test and self-isolate until they receive a negative test result.
“This change will come into effect at 04:00am on Tuesday 30 November 2021.”
The new measures include a PCR test on day two for Covid-19 for travellers who have arrived in the UK as well as mandatory self-isolation until they get a negative result.
Some firms have already began to hike prices – which currently begin around £40, up to more than £150.
TUI also confirmed that passengers can change their travel plans for free until next month, but cannot get a refund or credit note.
They said: “Any customers who do not wish to travel and are due to travel up to and including 19 December can amend their holiday free of charge.
“Unfortunately, we’re not able to offer refund credit notes to our customers.”
They are yet to confirm if any flights are being cancelled.
The new variant has resulted in 10 countries being put back onto the red list, which requires all returning Brits to pay to quarantine at a hotel for 10 days.
Other countries are also enforcing new rules on UK holidaymakers.
Spain is banning all unvaccinated Brits from December 1, which includes anyone over the age of 12, while Switzerland has banned all non-Swiss arrivals.
Austria has banned tourists until at least December 13, having gone back into lockdown..
Morocco banned all UK flights after the cases soared across Britain last month, with the ban still in place, while Qatar put the UK on its red list last week, meaning all Brits, even if fully vaxxed, must quarantine at a hotel for two days on arrival.
