Triple J roasted over Splendour pic fail

Triple J has been ruthlessly mocked over an unfortunate Instagram caption for a collection of photos from Splendour in the Grass.

The youth broadcaster took to social media to share a series of crowd shots from the festival over the weekend.

“Not a phone in sight, just ppl living in the moment,” the post was captioned.

The problem?

There were plenty of phones in sight – with viewers counting as many as eight mobiles in one picture alone.

The radio station was swiftly ridiculed by thousands of followers over the odd caption choice.

“Not a phone in sight. Except for the phones clearly in sight,” read one comment liked over 600 times.

“There’s literally a phone in the first picture,” added another.

“This is a game of Where’s Wally but with phones, and I’m here for it,” joked a third.

Other Triple J listeners reminisced on the good old days – with one writing: “Big Day Outs of the 1990s was really living in the moment with no phone.”

The Instagram fail came after a tough weekend of negative press for the Byron-based music festival.

Splendour in the Grass co-founder Jess Ducrou told Triple J’s Hack on Monday that organisers “did the best we could” as floods turned the site into a quagmire.

The festival was forced to cancel all headline acts on Friday after relentless rain turned the site into a flooded marsh.

Rideshare prices skyrocketed as the festival closed its campgrounds and moved some revellers to nearby campsites.

“We were in a really difficult position,” Ms Ducrou said.

“We have insurance, we could have cancelled the entire event. So it wasn’t a financial decision for us to go forward.

“It was more about considering how long it had been since Splendour had happened. The fact that so many people had come into the area for it.

“And the fact so many people were relying on it and working for it.

“And it was a mixed bag, for sure. It certainly wasn’t what we hoped it would be.

“There were some great moments.”
